Le présent simple (Simple Present Tense)

C’est le temps le plus basique de la langue anglaise. Il est cependant intéressant de par son emploi pour exprimer le futur.

Emploi


Le Présent simple s’utilise pour exprimer :

  1. Faits, généralisations, vérité universelle
  2. Habitudes et routine
  3. Situations/caractéristiques permanentes
  4. Evénements
  5. Arrangements officiels, programmes, mais il faut un repère temporel
  6. Opinions & goûts
  7. Narrations, instructions, commentaires (sport/journaux)

Exemples:

Water boils at 100 degrees Celcius. ➔ Vérité universelle

The Earth goes around the Sun. ➔ Vérité universelle

Dogs are nicer than cats. ➔ Généralisation

Cars don't fly. ➔ Fait

Paris is the capital city of France. ➔ Fait

We play football every day. ➔ Habitude

He prefers cats / I think it’s easy ➔ Opinions & goûts

The meeting starts at 6 pm ➔ Arrangements officiels ( 6 pm: repère temporel)

The train leaves at 3 pm ➔ Horaire (3 pm: repère temporel)

Zidane runs, gets the ball & shoots... ➔ Commentaire sportif
